About me

About me

My name is Louise and I am passionate about helping young people to succeed in maths. I am an experienced maths teacher of nearly 15 years and I have taught students from 11-18 across all ability levels. My expert subject knowledge combined with my passion and high expectations have enabled me to support the students I work with to achieve outstanding results at GCSE and A Level Maths and Further Maths.

I am a former head of maths and currently work as a director of maths for a multi academy trust. In this role I am lucky enough to support and coach other teachers to raise standards in challenging schools across the north of England.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my child needs a tutor?

Look for signs such as declining grades, lack of confidence in a particular subject, or struggling to keep up with classmates. Additionally, if your child expresses frustration or disinterest in learning, it might indicate a need for extra support.

What are your rates and how is payment handled?

The rate for one to one tuition is £50 an hour and small group tuition is from £20 an hour. Payment is made each month via bank transfer.

How long will my child need tuition for?

The answer to this will vary greatly depending on the reason why you are looking for tuition. This can be further discussed in the free consultation.

What qualifications or experience do you have?

I have a BSc honours degree in Mathematics and a PGCE in secondary maths education. I have been teaching in secondary schools for over ten years, in this time I have successfully led a maths department and currently work as a director of maths for a multi academy trust.

How can I ensure my child gets the most out of tutoring sessions?

Encourage your child to actively participate in sessions, ask questions, and practise the concepts covered. Provide a quiet and distraction-free environment for studying, and communicate openly with the tutor about your child's learning goals and any concerns that arise.

What age ranges do you tutor?

I specialise in helping young people aged 11-16. This is key stage 3 up to GCSE.

Do you tutor any other qualifications?

GCSE Maths, Statistics and Level 2 Further Maths.

How often should my child have tutoring sessions?

Group sessions run once a week during term time and throughout half term. One to one is offered weekly or biweekly depending on the needs of the student.

Would group tuition be suitable for my child?

Group tuition can be an effective and cost-efficient option for many students, offering opportunities for social interaction and peer support. Some students find the shared success of the group dynamic really motivational whilst others prefer a more traditional individualised approach.
